Penny Black’s Social Diary: Allianz’s dancing; Insurtech stands

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.
Not like Allianz
Distribution manager at Allianz Engineering Inspection Services Rajesh Poselay, posted a LinkedIn picture of himself and his colleagues attempting the viral “Not Like Us” dance trend.
The team captioned their efforts with “Not Like Allianz”, serving as proof that insurance professionals can jump on social media trends just as enthusiastically (if perhaps not as gracefully) as the rest of us.
They’re beating the stuck-in-the-past allegations… one TikTok trend at a time.

The comments section was particularly supportive, with one colleague declaring that Poselay is “the Allianz gift that keeps on giving!”
Another commenter suggested it “works equally well with Thriller soundtrack”, which has me picturing a Thriller-themed follow-up video.
I would love to see insurance professionals trying to imitate Michael Jackson’s moves.
Penny’s Lunch Box

The Insurtech Insights Europe 2025 conference refreshment options were a revelation compared with the usual conference fare.
The bubble tea stand was a personal favourite as the lychee boba and apple flavour kept me refreshed for the full two days.
The conference also had a mini pancake station I kept returning to. I’ll spare myself the embarrassment of sharing the final figure of my visits, but let’s just say I’m now well-versed in mini pancake sauce and topping combinations.
It was delightful to see conference organisers thinking outside the box. It felt like a little treat every time I stumbled across another stand. Five stars.
Out of context
“You’ll actually see me on the treadmill playing sudoku on the hardest level at the same time. What I’m trying to teach my brain is to move in both directions. Do something that’s quantitative, that requires logic, while you’re training your body at the same time.”
Rob Schimek, founder and group CEO of Bolttech, shares his “hobbies” – although I’d categorise them more as torture.
