Fully Comp episode 10: When will we meet again? – the future of insurance networking in 2021 (part one)

Welcome to the latest episode of Fully Comp, Post’s video series tackling some of the biggest issues in insurance. Today we ask the question: When will we meet again?

With the UK’s largest insurance gathering the British Insurance Brokers’ Association Conference cancelled as an in person event next year - on the back of numerous similar cancellations in 2020 due to Covid-19 - what does this mean for networking?

The market has a long standing commitment to face-to-face interactions, asserting it is a ‘people’ business, so how does insurance get business done in 2021?

With this in mind, Post content director Jonathan Swift brought together a panel of experts to discuss questions such as:

  • Is the insurance sector a poorer place with reduced or no in person networking?
  • Is it possible to replicate the in person networking experience satisfactorily virtually?
  • How easy has it been to a) maintain business contacts and b) generate new business during the last nine months?
  • What advice would you give to Biba as it prepares for the 2021 conference to go virtual?
  • What business development lessons from lockdown will survive if and when things return to relative normalcy?

Participants:

Tracey Cookson, associate director, Thornton Tomasetti

Neil Johnson, executive director, Brandformula

Sandra McDonald, head of client services, McLarens

Nick Milton, UK head of sales and distribution, Pen Underwriting

Mark O’Mahony, sales director, Iprosurv

Tracey Smith, head of insuretech and fintech, Covea
