Claims Apprentice 2020: Episode four – Insurtech challenge
With Team KDA emerging as the winners of the podcast challenge, the apprentices now move onto their next task.
In the fourth episode of The Claims Apprentice, Suzanne Liversidge, sponsor Kennedys’ own Alan Sugar, explains that for this challenge Team Empower and Team KDA need to devise their own insurtech start-ups to tackle the challenge of future mobility.
This includes coming up with a five-year business plan and creating a brand for their respective businesses.
To help the teams bring their ideas to life, both are assigned a mentor.
Team Empower get to work with Karim Derrick, the product and innovation director at Kennedys IQ; meanwhile Team KDA area is assigned Vishaaldeep Flora, a product manager working at Kennedys IQ.
Awaiting them once they have fine-tuned their start-ups are three insurtech investment dragons in Eos Venture Partners founding partner Carl Bauer, Lloyd’s Lab senior manager Ed Gaze and Insurtech Gateway director and co-founder Robert Lumley, each armed with a fictional £500,000 to back the best idea.
But before the teams get to the pitch the UK is placed into lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning the teams will now make their case for investment via video.
So will Team KDA made up of Daniel Brant (UIA Mutual), Alexandra Francis (Axa UK) and Kelly Huddlestone (Covéa) go 2-0 up?
Will Team Empower consisting of Isaac Fuente (Nexus Underwriting), Kayleigh Lawson and Taylor McTaggart (both Zurich Insurance) level the scores?
Who will make the most convincing business case to secure the insurtech dragons’ cash?
And who will be left empty handed, stuck in start-up purgatory without the funds to realise their plans?
