After the hot dry summer of 2018, there has been renewed interest and a significant amount of press coverage about subsidence, with Crawford and Sedgwick reporting increases of more than 300% in subsidence claims. Toby Daley, underwriting director at Plum Underwriting investigates.
Britain’s last serious heatwave in the summer of 2003 resulted in subsidence claims of £390m. In a normal year, subsidence claims are around £75m.
