Penny Black's insurance week

Penny isn’t sure taking work home with you is a good idea at the best of times, but one loss adjuster at Crawford & Co took the concept a step further when he spotted a barn ablaze on his way home.

He immediately called the fire in to the authorities and proceeded to notify the local rural insurers that they had a claim. He then waited on site for said insurer to arrive, ready to go about his job once the firefighters had done their job. Talk about responding to a claim promptly...

Meanwhile, combining your work and your passion may be seen by many as the ultimate dream, but be careful how you go about making such a scenario a reality, as it can often end in tears.

Back in the good old days of broking, one of Penny’s friends from Ten Insurance realised from a young age that taking a job as a regional insurance broker was compatible with his dream of spending his late afternoons sailing in Devon after a hard day’s work.

His dreams came to an end, however, the day he parked his company car too close to the shore and had to explain the soggy upholstery to his employers.
