20 December: Candlelit Christmas

20-dec

Candles on the Christmas tree go a long way towards helping to create the right sort of festive ambience.

On Christmas Day, Mrs Policyholder lit the candles and went to join the rest on the family for the traditional turkey feast. However, in doing so, she neglected the first rule of fire safety - never leave a naked flame unattended - at Christmas or at any other time of year.

With Bing Crosby warbling in the background, the family sipped on fine wines and tucked into turkey with all the trimmings, blissfully unaware that in the adjoining room the tree had caught fire, spreading around the lounge and resulting in damage to the property in excess of £170 000.

Not the sort of ambience Mrs Policyholder was trying to create one assumes.
