5 December: Come fly with me?
Completing the first year of an undergraduate course is certainly cause for celebration.
To reward himself for all of his efforts that past year, Mr Policyholder decided to take a holiday and spend a few weeks in the sun to recharge his batteries after the rigours of student life.
With the recent publicity surrounding increasing tuition fees, rising food prices and the curbing of discount alcohol, Mr Policyholder unsurprisingly found himself a little short of cash once the holiday was paid for and his spending money taken into account. So he decided to hitch-hike from his home in Coventry to London's Heathrow Airport.
As luck would have it the driver of Mr Policyholder's first lift was an air traffic control inspector on his way to Heathrow.
Unable to believe his good fortune, Mr Policyholder loaded his back pack into the car and settled back to enjoy the ride that would eventually lead him to sunnier climes.
Keen to make conversation with his chauffeur, Mr Policyholder asked him about his interesting sounding vocation. Happy to talk about his job, the driver recalled tales of near misses, accidents, plane faults and mishaps at airports for the two-hour journey.
On his arrival at Heathrow, Mr Policyholder quickly gathered his belongings, thanked the man, and promptly called his insurer to ask if he was covered for cancellation on the grounds of being "too frightened to fly".
