Tributes from colleagues and friends in the industry have started pouring in for a flood risk director who was tragically killed just days before Christmas.

Aaron Jones, 38, of Ashfield Solutions Group was walking his dog in Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire on the evening of 23 December when a driver hit him, leaving him with “unsurvivable injuries”.

The driver did not stick around to help, instead driving off.

A police manhunt was quickly launched, and a 27-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for a collision, and failing to report a collision.

The vehicle believed to be involved has also been located.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “The force would like to thank everyone who responded to their appeal with information.

“The collision happened near to Caer Salem Baptist Chapel sometime between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on Monday, 23 December while the man was walking his dog.

“Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone travelling in the area at the time who have dashcam on their vehicles, or anyone with a doorbell camera or CCTV to check the footage and get in touch.

“Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police.”

Tributes come in

Jones, who specialised in making sure properties were making the correct flood-risk decisions, was described as a ‘lovely guy’ who did lots of work for his local area.

Local councillor Bryan Davies said the village was ‘so quiet’ following his ‘tragic’ death.

Andrew Pullman, managing director of Ashfield, wrote on LinkedIn: “We are all overwhelmed with grief at the loss of our colleague and friend, Aaron Jones.

“In the coming weeks and when the time is appropriate, we will provide a more eloquent post befitting the great man Aaron was. In the meantime, we pass on our deepest sympathies to his wife and young children.”

Gareth Boyd, CEO at Watertight International, added: “He was a great man and always great fun to be with. We will all really miss him.”

Mary Long-Dhonau OBE, who runs her own flood risk resilience consultancy firm, commented on Pullman’s post: “I was truly devastated to hear the appalling and tragic news of Aaron’s death. He was such a nice guy and so supportive to me & the work I did. I will miss him hugely.”

Insurance Post would like to pass on its condolences to Jonesf’s family, friends, colleagues and peers at this time.
