Aviva was crowned the Best of the Best Insurer after the 2000 people in attendance at the Royal Albert Hall cast their votes as part of an interactive poll on the night.

The award celebrated the achievements of the six most successful insurance groups over the course of the history of the British Insurance Awards and Aviva was a fitting winner given its long history with the event dating back to its beginning.

Pre-Aviva, Commercial Union won the General Insurer of the Year three out of the first four years in 1995, 1996 and 1998.

Meanwhile another business that ultimately made up Aviva, Norwich Union owned the Customer Care Award in the early days of the event, picking up the prize in 1997, 1998 and 2000.

In more recent years CU and NU’s successor Aviva has again had success in these two categories, winning both General Insurer of the Year and Customer Care two years in a row in 2017 and 2018.

The business has also proven its stripes in terms of technology adoption, winning the Digital Innovation award in 2015 and 2018 among other achievements which have marked Aviva out as one of – if not the – most successful insurer of recent years at the BIAs. The Best of the Best Insurer is the latest addition to the trophy cabinet.

We’re delighted to have won the very first ‘Best of the Best’ award. The fact that it is voted for by the industry makes this a particularly special win for us. We will continue to do everything we can to provide the best possible trading and claims service to all our broker partners and their customers.
Phil Bayles, managing director intermediaries for Aviva
