Career File: Sue Langley - Former Hiscox COO takes on non-exec chairmanship at Gallagher

Arthur J Gallagher International has hired Sue Langley as non-executive chairman of the Gallagher Holdings UK board.

Langley is currently a non-executive director for UKAR (Northern Rock Asset Management and Bradford & Bingley) and chairman of its remuneration committees, as well as the lead non-executive director for the Home Office.

Until recently, she was also CEO of the government’s Financial Services Organisation within UK trade and investment, tasked with encouraging high value foreign investment and trade and strengthening the UK’s reputation as the world’s leading financial centre.

In 2015 Langley was awarded an OBE for services to women in business.
She has extensive experience and understanding of the commercial, customer and regulatory nuances of the international insurance world from her previous roles as director of market development and a member of the executive team at Lloyd’s of London, director of Lloyd’s Asia and chairman of Lloyd’s Japan.

Prior to this she was chief operating officer for Hiscox and a member of the executive team for the Hiscox Group where she held various board positions. Langley joined Hiscox from PWC, where she was a principal consultant working with a range of FTSE 100 companies.

Commenting on the appointment, Grahame Chilton, CEO of Gallagher International, said: “Her track record of delivering change management programmes, diverse experience within general insurance and her understanding of Lloyd’s and the London market, will be incredibly valuable as we build upon the momentum within the business and enter the next phase of our strategic growth.”
