Looking Back 50 years: Deaths on the road see increase

The Ministry of Transport has announced that 507 people died in road accidents in the UK in January.

This was 37 more than in January 1958 and 126 more than in January 1959, where there was an unaccountable fall. Publicity given to the Christmas figures, the Ministry say, might have helped to curb
