EU decision: insurers must pay VAT on outsourced services
The European Court of Justice has decided that outsourced services provided to insurance companies, such as claims handling, should not be exempt from value added tax. The ruling relates to back-office services provided by outside contractor Accenture to a Dutch unit of Allianz, Universal Life .
According to the judgement, these activities "do not constitute the performance of services relating to insurance transactions carried out by an insurance broker or an insurance agent" and should notOnly users who have a paid subscription or are part of a corporate subscription are able to print or copy content.
