Bolkestein set to quit European Commission this year
Frits Bolkestein, the European Commissioner responsible for the drive towards an integrated European financial market, has confirmed he will not seek the Dutch seat on the commission after his term ends in November. He had been expected to continue, perhaps as competition commissioner.
Mr Bolkestein, third in Post Magazine's Power List this year, is responsible for the internal market, taxation and customs union issues. He works with two directorates-generals: the InternalOnly users who have a paid subscription or are part of a corporate subscription are able to print or copy content.
