IIB urges Westminster to fight Euro VAT directive

The government must take a “robust stand and do everything possible in its power", to secure an amendment to the Sixth Directive, which will charge VAT to insurance services. According to IIB Director General Andrew Paddick the Government has to find a solution "which more accurately, realistically and equitably reflects how global insurance markets operate in this new millennium”.

In his response to the HM Revenue & Customs' consultation on proposed changes to UK law to reflect the European Court of Justice judgement in the Arthur Andersen case, Mr Paddick observes that the UK

Less than 24 hours before she was due to appear at the British Insurance Brokers’ Association’s Manifesto launch, Tulip Siddiq has resigned as Treasury minister and been replaced by Labour MP Emma Reynolds.
