Penny Black's Insurance Week - 8 May 2014
Penny was thrilled to run into Allied World’s Julian James this week, and by the sounds of it, she was lucky to get any time with the Swiss-based firm’s European president.
James told Penny he flew back from New York on Tuesday last week and, although he denied suffering the effects of jet-lag, James added he would be departing to Zurich on Thursday, ahead of a trip to Singapore shortly after. What, pray tell, was James doing on Wednesday then? Trying to exchange on a house, of course. A quiet week by the sounds of it. Also, this week, Penny was astonished to find yet another insurance bod with a criticism aimed at outgoing RSA boss Adrian Brown. Last week, AJG International CEO David Ross reported that Brown was a poor tipster on the nags, and now sources report that – despite being of admirable character in all other respects – old Ade is also a rubbish golfer. Indeed, one source confided that they hoped a break between Brown’s old and new employer might allow him to boost his handicap. Penny wonders if this is worth it, because we all know that full-time insurance brokers rarely find time for 18 holes.
