60 Seconds With... HCR’s Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards, partner and head of HCR Insurance & Risk, did not break the world triple jump record in 1995 but can be found dancing to anything by Dua Lipa.
Explain your job to a five-year-old.
The law is a set of rules that we must all follow. My job is to help people understand those rules and sort out disagreements.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
There have been many exciting and fulfilling moments, but without doubt building the HCR Insurance and Risk practice, from scratch, has been the ‘unexpected star of the show’.
What would you name your autobiography?
Everything Is Possible.
If you could learn any new skill what would it be?
I’d love to be able to paint and play the piano.
If you could be a fictional character, which one would it be?
Ted Lasso – just a very refreshingly straight forward, honest, optimistic, energetic and likeable person.
What chore do you hate most?
Tidying up after my three daughters.
What did you buy with your first wage packet?
I suspect I paid off my credit card bill from the month before.
What would you tell your 18-year-old self today?
Explore the wonderful opportunities that life brings, work hard, and be true to yourself in everything you do.
What song is guaranteed to make you smile or dance?
Right now, just about anything by Dua Lipa, saw her show at Glastonbury. Truly… levitating.
What sporting event that you’ve never attended is top of your bucket list?
The Super Bowl.
If you could go back in time to any point in history, where would you go?
6 June 1944 – a day that changed world history. The courage, self-sacrifice, determination and commitment shown that day by so many brave men and women should always serve to inspire.
What is one fact about you that would surprise your colleagues?
I did not break the world triple jump record in 1995.
What one thing couldn’t you live without?
Other than my family, Hellman’s Mayonnaise, McVitie’s milk chocolate digestives, and ice cream. This perfect diet is balanced by my love of running.
How do you define success?
Being able to look back at the end of it all, smile and feel I positively affected others.
What was the last lie you told?

Winding up one of my colleagues, a massive Taylor Swift fan, by making up a story that her beau Travis Kelce (Kansas City Chiefs) was attending a client’s sporting evening and that Swift might also appear.
She was so excited and kept asking when the official invite would arrive. Fortunately, Kelce got injured and the event was unable to take place.
