Penny Black's Insurance Week - 12 June 2014

It was with a slight tinge of disappointment that Penny learnt she had not made the cut for a financial journalist squad to face an Aviva football team at Norwich City’s home ground last week.

Being of the fairer sex, Penny was obviously deemed persona non grata at quite such a macho event, and she declined an offer extended to all of Post’s female contingent to frolic on the pitch at half time – presumably just to wave their pom-poms as cheerleaders. However, considering the 4-1 drubbing dished out to the journo boys, perhaps an invite will be extended for the ladies to lace up their boots next year instead. Also in football news this week, Penny has been getting kitted out for the Brazil World Cup. Gin, check. Tonic, check. Cucumber, check. And what better prep for a World Cup than a handy statistics update, this week provided by the charming young boys and girls at Beazley. Penny has never been to Brazil – although she is most definitely open to any invitations – so she was shocked to find that the distance from Rio De Janeiro to the most distant stadium is almost equal to a journey distance from London to Moscow! Not one for the bus, Penny suspects.
