Blog: The rise in fly tipping - what do insurance policies cover?
A recent report by the BBC about the continued rise of large fly-tipping incidents across England came as no surprise, as there has been a significant rise year-on-year in both the frequency and severity of waste related claims, ranging from relatively minor fly-tipping incidents where a local contractor has dumped rubble on private land through to large scale incidents where waste is illegally deposited on an industrial scale, writes Richard Lawrence, environmental operations manager at Questgates.
The high cost of recycling and disposing of waste legitimately is a significant factor and has undoubtedly provided organised criminal gangs with the incentive to set up illegal operations.
