A blizzard in the Northeast United States almost shattered records for snow in Boston, despite the impact in New York and New Jersey being less than anticipated.

The storm, which hit the US over Monday and Tuesday, saw a state of emergency decleared and shut down schools, colleges, workplaces, local mass transit, interstate rail and business and airports
