Major earthquake hits Christchurch
A major earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred near Christchurch, New Zealand on 22 February at 12:51pm local time (11:51pm on Monday 21 February 21 GMT).
The epicentre of this event is reported to be almost within the city bounds of Christchurch. This earthquake was followed 15 minutes later by a second earthquake shock of magnitude 5.6.
