Older readers will remember Sir John Harvey-Jones, the pipe-smoking boss of iconic British company ICI. He hosted a TV programme in the 1990s called Troubleshooter, advising firms how to change and transform themselves. The series gave millions of Brits an insight, for the first time, into business management according to Brightside executive chairman Mark Cliff.
Of course, Troubleshooter was artificial. Businesses don’t go from caterpillar to butterfly during an hour of TV, but Sir John’s modus operandi was insightful. He focused on markets and customers
