In 2013, the Financial Services Authority was dissolved, and regulatory responsibility was split to create a more effective regulation of financial services. Post investigates the prospect of a single regulator again as mooted by Prime Minister Liz Truss.

In August pre-confirmation of her Prime Ministerial appointment Liz Truss’s campaign platform mentioned plans to merge the Financial Conduct Authority, Prudential Regulation Authority and Payments
