Dive In: Lloyd’s chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown unveils future female leaders programme
Lloyd’s has developed a programme it hopes will propel women in to more senior roles, chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown told delegates at Dive In Festival.
The corporation reported a mean average gender pay gap of 27.7% for 2017, above the industry average of 25.9% and well above the UK national average of 14.5%.
Carnegie-Brown said: “As part of our work to develop future female talent, I am pleased to announce that Lloyd’s has a new development programme for women called Advance. The Advance programme will bring together a community of potential female leaders, a pipeline of talent from across the corporation and the market, providing targeted development, access to experts and roles models and ongoing networking opportunities aimed at supporting their future careers within the corporation and the broader market.”
In addition, Lloyd’s will next week release a best practice guide in partnership with work-life balance charity Working Families.
Carnegie-Brown said: “This report is a both a guide to benchmark best practice among the progressive organisation and a practical summary of what employers should consider when formulating policies and impending best practice.
“This is so important, because there is no such thing as a typical family construct anymore. Families have evolved and become more complex than ever. Single parents, shared parental leave, same sex marriage, adoption, surrogacy and step children, older parents with dual caring responsibilities of young children and their own ageing parents, terminal care leave. And that is just the beginning.
“Lloyd’s is working hard to be at the forefront of best practice, creating new policies and initiatives that make time for the demands of the wider family and not just parents. There is more to do, but there is also good work to celebrate.”
