AIG posts huge third quarter loss

Global insurer AIG has had a punishing third quarter after needing to boost reserves for 2016 losses and dealing with the recent hurricanes in the US and Caribbean.

The company made a pre-tax loss of $1.7bn (£1.3bn) after $3bn of catastrophe losses primarily from hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and a reserve boost of $836m of which $705m was related to
