Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 11 December

It was a case of Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now for Kate Syred, Direct Line’s commercial director of home insurance, when she attended Morrissey’s recent concert at the O2.

It turns out Kate was under the impression she was actually going to see Alanis Morissette, and was not impressed when the performer turned out to be the former Smiths frontman. Being a true professional, Syred did not Panic and Ask to leave, but instead held firm and eventually admitted to finding the be-quiffed singer less depressing than expected. How Ironic. Meanwhile, Penny prefers to not be reminded of her growing maturity, but woe betide anyone who overlooks her birthday. However, she was surprised to discover not all share her sensitivities when her invitation to Amedeo Adjusting’s 10th birthday soirée arrived no less than 13 months after the big day. Upon arrival, Penny was greeted at the event with all the bonhomie one would expect from loss adjusters in the first week of party season, and Amedeo partners Nick Croan and Andrew Richmond were wonderful hosts. Still, Penny hopes their nearest and dearest see their own anniversaries marked in a more timely fashion.
