Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 30 October
It’s not unusual for Penny to find herself reflecting on her youthful moments with embarrassment, but she’s always been a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool insurance type – and she knows what to watch out for.
Not so Axa’s fraud boss Ed Frost, who told Penny that during his time studying Biology at Preston University, he lived, it later transpired, almost right next door to a massive fraud ring. Frost was reluctant to draw a line between the experience and his later career but, of course, that didn’t stop a shameless press bod claiming it inspired him to join the fraud fight! Meanwhile, Penny is no stranger to meeting insurance CEOs at the City’s most desirable addresses – but never before has she been snuck in through the back door. An interview with Capsicum Re boss Grahame Chilton at the Walbrook building came with instructions to enter through the loading bay to avoid a “scenario” at reception around photography equipment being brought onto the premises. Penny wonders if future visitors will soon be required to take off their shoes, carry liquids in a clear plastic bag and declare all electronic equipment before being granted access.
