Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 18 December

German efficiency is world renowned but our Teutonic cousin’s reputation for innovation is less robust.

Speaking at a conference in Warsaw, Sollers Consulting co-founder Michal Trochimczuk mentioned a German insurer CEO who concluded a speech about the spread of digital technology and the threat it posed with the statement – “so next year we are forming a committee to look at this and in 2016 we are going to decide what to do”. Penny hasn’t witnessed speed like that since the construction of the Athens Olympics venues! Penny is no stranger to gastronomic feats – her lemon drizzle cake is a firm favourite at the Women’s Institute – so she was delighted to spot a fellow innovator at a Christmas soirée she was invited to attend last week. Peering out from behind the glass planes of the Walkie Talkie ‘Sky Garden’ was none other than Heston ‘snail porridge’ Blumenthal himself. The culinary visionary was attempting to go incognito, sporting a tasteful crop on his usually barren crown, but host RSA’s team of super sleuths saw through the disguise, and made a series of ‘subtle’ trips to the powder room to watch the master at work. Finally, Penny would love to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
