My Best XI: Chris Withers, Covéa
Covéa head of commercial lines distribution Chris Withers selects his best XI for an insurance company start-up. Chris’s team is almost exclusively made up from the upper echelons of the insurance intermediary world. However, he has drafted in a Russian-born Reading striker to lead the team to victory...
1. Nigel Todd (JLT) (GK) An imposing figure who will dominate his area as well as the opposition. He will push the team forward with his direct style of communication
2. Simon Perry (Zennor) (RB) Energetic and pacey, Simon will protect the result while looking for opportunities to attack
3. John Lawton (Iprism) (LB) Experienced and cultured John will let others run around while he ensures he doesn’t waste a pass and never lets an opportunity go by him
4. Julian Beard (John Beard & Son) (CM) Favours the oval-shaped ball but his ability to adapt will enable him to excel in this role. Julian will be a fans’ favourite
5. Nick Sharpe (Giles) (CB) Our captain. He will keep the team disciplined and ensure the team talk is upheld to the letter. He will make things happen
6. Michael Learoyd (Thomas Carroll) (CB) 100% energy, effort and enthusiasm. Mick can outrun the Duracell bunny and keep going long into injury time
7. Chris Brady (Jelf) (RM) Terrier-like in his application, Chris will cover every area and ensure he delivers opportunities for the strikers to convert
8. Nigel Salisbury (ex-Marsh) (CM) The team’s creative heartbeat. Plenty of flair and, despite the laid-back approach, he always delivers the goods
9. Pavel Pogrebnyak (ST) He’s not been in the news recently, but the Reading striker will benefit from the confidence boost of being named in a starting XI
10. Jonathan Davey (Keychoice) (ST) Leads from the front. Jonathan won’t shy away from the pressure of expectation. Can score goals from nothing
11. George Maxwell (QBE) (LM) Scottish legend. Wee George the magician will make something from nothing and his ability to travel means he can score from anywhere
