My Best XI David Coupe, owner, EC3 Legal
David Coupe, owner of law firm EC3 Legal, selects his best XI for an insurance industry start-up. Coupe has chosen largely from the world of underwriting, with a reinsurer taking the key spot in goal. There is also room in the side for the world’s greatest footballer and – arguably – the world’s greatest manager.
1. Chris Lee (Swiss Re) (GK)
Lee provides an imposing presence between the sticks and certainly knows how to celebrate a victory
2. James Stevenson (Chesterfield) (RB)
Good at dealing with overseas agents and high fees so is likely to be able to tackle everything in his path
3. John Owens (Integro) (LB)
Everyone loves a Wiganer, and Leighton Baines learnt all he knows from Owens. A star in the post-match hot tub, too
4. Neill Johnstone (Lorega) (CM)
Johnstone is the ideal man to play the Dennis Wise role. The midfield maestro will certainly will give a good midfield kicking to the opposition
5. Mike Smith (Incorporated Insurance) (CB)
Smith gives height at the back, but has the ability to get forward. Always the first name on the team sheet
6. Douglas Young (K Drewe) (CB)
A proud Scot, Young knows how to deal with adversity – after all, he is a Rangers fan
7. Brian Russell (APC) (RM)
A different player to his hero Bobby Moore, Russell is bound to make an impression on the right-hand side. Always puts his body on the line in the call of duty
8. Stephen Manning (Canopius) (CM)
We all need rigorous organisation in the team, and Manning is the man for this task. Also dependable from the penalty spot
9. Alex Ferguson (ST)
Not on the pitch for his playing ability, just as a figure of irritation for our opponents. Ferguson will take all the kickings so the rest don’t have to
10. Lionel Messi (ST)
Bound to score but yet to be caught by the FSA (Footballers’ Simulation Association) – but the FCA (Footballers Caught Acting) will no doubt be on his case come April 2013
11. Sian Fisher (OIM) (LM)
Our truly creative spirit – the Ronaldo of the team but with a real charm, brain and stamina for the fight
